The Place

Margaret River may be the most isolated wine region in the world. It lies over 4,000 miles west of Sydney on the shores of the Indian Ocean which brings cool ocean air to this warm, Mediterranean landscape. Thanks to brisk offshore ocean currents, Margaret River is one of the best places in the world to surf, and to make aromatic white wines with real personality. Unbelievably, the region's climate is said to be similar to Burgundy in France.

Vineyard & Soils

This wine is made from fruit picked from vineyards scattered about the northern Margaret River region. The region is vast in its biodiversity and soil types, but the most common is gravelly or sandy loam formed by the granite rock that lies just underneath. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon find ground conditions similar to that of Bordeaux, the other great place for Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blends.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested at night in the cool evening air, and then brought to the winery where they were lightly pressed in small batches into stainless steel fermenters. To preserve the natural aromas of the grapes, the wine was cold fermented over the course of two weeks. After some settling, the finished individual lots were combines to make the final blend.

Tasting Note

Pale straw in color with aromas of passion fruit, melon, lychee, and freshly cut grass. The wine is light bodied but animated with tropical flavors flying high above an upbeat freshness and mouthwatering finish. Pour a little in a glass alongside a grilled salmon steak with mango salsa, fresh oysters, or a bowl of mixed greens with Mediterranean vinaigrette.
